Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
As Christians, it is important to consistently remind ourselves of the reality of eternity. The awareness of life after this world encourages us to love one another, regardless of our beliefs or ideologies. This eternal perspective influences our behaviour, making us cautious not to intentionally hurt or offend others. If Eternity is our ultimate goal, we will not stand as false witnesses against others. We will recognise that everyone is in need of God’s grace and mercy, and this will compel us to be merciful to others as we also desire to gain Eternity.
As we journey through life, our focus should remain on Eternity. It is crucial to remember that God is watching everyone. We should be quick to apologise when we offend someone and be quick to forgive when we are hurt. Take time to reflect on those you have offended and those who have offended you; pay them a visit. Also, check on those who may have gone to prison because of your actions; see what you can do to resolve those issues. Reflecting on Eternity as a Christian helps us stay focused, even when we are offended.
If people today were to prioritise Eternity, many of their problems would vanish. Therefore, as we continue our life’s journey, let us take the thought of Eternity seriously. Let us help and care for others, loving genuinely without expectations and forgiving so we do not stain our garments before God. In doing so, we can reign with Him in glory on the Last Day. May you stay in faith and hope as you do the will of God. Emmanuel!
Prayer: O Holy Spirit, create in me a heart of forgiveness and continue to teach me how to live a life of holiness, in Jesus’ name!
