Proof Text: John 8:32
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
As Christians, receiving the Word is easy, but can we hold on to it?
Holding on to the truth is not just about hearing or reading God’s Word. We hold on to the truth when we believe and take God at His Word, when we have conviction about what we have received.
When we hold on to the truth, I mean, when we believe God’s Word, we allow the truth to take root in our hearts. We allow the truth to flourish in our hearts. When the truth flourishes, it becomes our standard. It tells us who God is and who we are. It dispels every lie of the enemy; it silences every false accusation that the enemy constantly throws at us.
The enemy doesn’t want you to know the truth because the truth sets you free indeed. The truth changes your life completely. The truth informs your mind for transformation. It reshapes your destiny.
The enemy snatches the truth we have received by sowing seeds of doubt and unbelief. The enemy does this by causing us to focus on our immediate situation and our surroundings; what we see, hear, and feel. He bombards us with different circumstances and trials just to get us to lose our focus. The Bible, however, encourages us to “stand firm with the belt of truth” (Ephesians 6:14). This clearly shows us that the devil aims to snatch the truth from us, but we must fasten our belt of truth.
The enemy wants to silence our voice before we get to speak. During his time of trial, Job said, “Yet I am not silenced by the darkness…” (Job 23:17). You may be thinking that God has abandoned you. You may feel stuck, depressed, sick, broken, or weak. The enemy’s accusations may have got to you. You may feel overwhelmed, helpless, or hopeless. Remember Abraham. You may feel like that dream or goal is impossible. Remember David and Joseph. You may not have fast legs or be strong. Remember Prophet T.B. Joshua.
God’s grace is sufficient for you. God has promised to see us through till the end. Hold on to that truth. Hold on to God’s Word. Fasten your belt of truth. Take God at His Word!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I have received Your Word. I thank You that You have spoken to me today. Thank You for opening my eyes to see and my ears to hear. Help me to trust You. Help me to take You at Your Word. Help me to hold on to the truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
