Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
There are times in our walk with God when His voice is silent. We may pray, fast, and seek Him, but still hear nothing. Yet God’s silence does not mean absence; He is always present, even when we cannot sense Him. In these quiet seasons, God works deeply within us. He teaches us to depend on His unchanging Word rather than feelings or circumstances. Consider Joseph, who waited years to see his dreams fulfilled, or David, anointed as king but sent back to the wilderness. Even Jesus on the cross experienced silence, yet God was always at work.
God’s silence matures us and tests our faith. It’s easy to trust when we receive constant confirmation, but silence teaches us to rely on conviction rather than emotion. Prophet TB Joshua said, “Faith is a practical sense of dependence on God.” Faith is founded on trust—trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when we cannot see it. During silent seasons, stay rooted in Scripture. Return to God’s promises and let them guide you through doubt. Surround yourself with fellow Christians; do not withdraw. Keep praying! Even when you have no words, your heart cry is enough because the Holy Spirit intercedes when we are weak.
Remember, God sometimes uses silence to prepare us, thereby shaping our character and deepening our dependence on Him. And when the silence lifts, we often look back and see, with gratitude, that God was with us every step of the way.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the strength to trust You even in the period of silence. Help me to hold on to Your Word, to wait with hope, and to remain faithful to You no matter how I feel. In Jesus Christ’s name! Amen!
