THE FATHER’S WILL

Luke 22:41-42 says, “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.’”

Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, prayed that the Father should change the course of events that was before Him. He asked God to let the cup pass Him by, but in the midst of it all, He also acknowledged and gave reverence to the Father because the ‘cup’ was necessary for His glorification. He had every reason to despair, but He chose to find out and submit to God’s will for Him in that moment. Amidst the horror of what He was enduring, He still chose to put God’s will before His own. He knew that the ‘cup’ was necessary for His glorification and that understanding gave Him the necessary fortitude and courage to bear the trial.

How do you handle your own situation? Do you remember to pray at all? Do you pray like Jesus? Or do you just make your requests known and ignore God’s plan for you? It is tempting, especially in the midst of trials, to put your will ahead of God’s will. It is tempting to want the blessing but not the Blessing Provider, to want the healing but not the Healer. As Christians, our situation is meant to take us closer to God, not away from Him. Remember that God sometimes uses our pain as a means to accomplish His purposes. We must lean on Him and trust in His goodness for us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me, Lord, to find you even in the midst of my trials, in Jesus’ name! Amen!
