The depth of your relationship with God is a journey—one of continual discovery. We can never reach a point where we can say we have uncovered all that He is, because His nature is limitless. And just as growth is natural in our physical lives, so also must we grow spiritually. As we mature, God invites us to go deeper, expanding our understanding of Him as we seek, know, and walk with Him day by day.

The depth of your relationship with God

Proof Text: Hebrews 5:13–14

Relationship with God is a journey; the truth is that we can never get to a point where we can say we have discovered the entirety of God. As it is in the physical, so it is in the spiritual. As we grow physically, we must also grow spiritually.

Prophet T.B. Joshua said, “Spiritual growth is a function of obedience.” This is why Paul the Apostle says in Hebrews 6:1, “…not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death….” This means we ought to grow and increase the depth of our relationship with God.

The question of who we are, where we are going, and why we are here is answered in the depths of our relationship with God. The deeper our relationship with God, the clearer our sight of His plans for us.

However, our reason for getting close to God should not be based on the products of our relationship with Him but simply on who He is. When our focus is only on what God can do for us, we miss the joy of fellowship.

People of God, to discover the depth of your relationship with God, you must check yourself and look around you. The transformation that comes with building a relationship with God does not hide itself. It reflects in our daily lives—how we talk, how we see things, how we perceive things, and even how we dress.

It is in building a relationship with God that we begin to discover how much we need Him. It is in building a relationship with God that we come to understand His laws, not just know them. It is in understanding God’s law that obedience becomes easy. Obedience is difficult only because we know His law but do not understand it.

Knowledge of the law leads us to live as if we are merely trying to avoid sinning, but understanding the law produces obedience.

Dear believer, if we desire to grow in our relationship with God, we must listen to what He has to say daily. This is where our obedience begins, because God does not want us to stop at knowing but to grow in understanding.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, increase the depth of my relationship with You. Help me to know You more and more every day, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen!
