SPEAK LIFE

Psalm 141:3 says, “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

In the journey of faith, our words carry remarkable power, shaping both our lives and the lives of those around us. As we strive to keep our hearts aligned with God’s truth and to speak life rather than harm, it’s helpful to remember the wisdom found in Scripture. This verse reminds us of the importance of asking God to guide our speech, so that every word we utter brings glory to Him and encouragement to others. Let these words become your prayer as you continue to walk closely with Jesus, trusting that He is able to shape your heart and your confession for His purpose and your good.

In Matthew 12:34-37, Jesus teaches that words reflect the heart: “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” The words we speak have power—they can justify or condemn us, and for every idle word, we must give account. If our words don’t align with God’s truth, they can become meaningless or even destructive.

Our lives are shaped by our choices and beliefs. Success in any endeavor depends on truly believing in it, just as Jesus believed in His purpose. Treating the Christian life like a hobby leads to inconsistency; faith must be embraced wholeheartedly, in both good times and bad. Our confession should be steadfast: Whether blessed or not, Jesus remains our Provider, Savior, Deliverer, and Redeemer.

As Christians, we act out of love, not for appreciation. We are called to meditate on the good word of the Lord and refrain from speaking negatively, for words directed to Jesus are true prayer. Setting a guard over your mouth is vital, as what you believe and say connects you to God. Even in long seasons of hardship, remember that Jesus is as close to you as He was to the woman with the issue of blood; your prayers have not been forgotten.

Prayer: Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth and keep watch over the door of my lips, in Jesus Christ’s name! Amen!
