Luke 17:1 – As Jesus tells us, things that can cause us to stumble will always exist. This means it is impossible for you to live among people without occasion for offence.
Offence comes in any way, whether you are wrong or right. This is the wall between you and your salvation, the wall between you and God.
A good Christian should refuse to be offended in order not to offend God. Why? There is no other place that offence dwells but the heart. Is that not where God lives, where the Holy Spirit lives?
You need to understand that feeling offended is like being caught in a trap. Indeed, offence is satan’s tool for blinding us to reality.
Why is this now acceptable as a way of life? It is because of a lack of real, genuine love. Real love forgets wrong so that there is hope for the future.
You should refuse to be offended so as not to offend God. You can’t harbour offence and talk to God or hear from God; it is not possible.
When you hold an offence, your spirit is not free. Your spirit needs to be free to contact God, to be sensitive to the Spirit of God. When you hold offence, your spirit is in bondage.
When you hold a grudge against somebody, you have already grieved the Holy Spirit. Remember, our heart is the contact point for the Holy Spirit.
To get out of your dry pit, you must let go of offence. Why? It is with your heart that you receive from God. When you hold grudges against someone, you can’t receive from God.
God has judged those who have offended you, so why do you want to also judge them? It is true that Jesus said it is not possible to live in this world without being offended, but in order not to offend God, you should refuse to be offended.
Prayer: O Holy Spirit, help me to overlook the wrong done to me by others. Remove every barrier between my heart and the Holy Spirit and teach me to focus on You only, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
