FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD IS FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORD

True friendship with God is something every believer desires. However, it is not something that happens by accident; it grows through intimacy, obedience, and fellowship, the centre of which is the Word.

You can’t truly know God apart from His Word, because His Word reveals His heart, His nature, and His ways.

Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you remain in Me and My Words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Notice He didn’t just say, “If you remain in me,” but “if my words remain in you.” Friendship with God is built on the foundation of His Word living inside us. The deeper the Word takes root in your heart, the closer your walk with God becomes.

As TB Joshua taught us, “The Word dominating us is the Lordship of Christ in us.” When the Word rules your thoughts and actions, Christ Himself begins to rule in you.

His Lordship isn’t just something you confess; it becomes something you live. The Word renews your mind and teaches you how to walk in God’s will daily (Romans 12:2).

James 4:4 reminds us that “…friendship with the world is enmity with God.” You can’t hold on to the world and expect to walk closely with God at the same time. The world pulls you away from the Word, but the Word draws you nearer to God. Verse 8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Every time you open your Bible with a humble heart, you’re taking a step closer to Him.

The written Word births the Living Word in us when we turn it over and over in our heart. Meditation brings revelation. When you keep turning God’s Word over in your heart, pondering it, believing it, and speaking it, it becomes life within you. That’s when friendship with God becomes real. You begin to know His voice, sense His presence, and walk in His wisdom daily.

Friendship with God grows where the Word is treasured. When His Word fills your heart, His presence fills your life. The more you live by the Word, the more you live like Him.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to build my friendship with You through Your Word. Let Your truth dwell richly in my heart and direct every part of my life. Teach me to love Your Word more than the world, and let Christ’s Lordship rule in me through it. May I draw nearer to You each day as I meditate on Your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
