Prophet T.B. Joshua taught us that, as Christians, “The first step to knowing our destiny—what God wants us to be—is to get to know God better.” You can only know God better if His Word dominates your heart and gains supremacy over you. Remember, God and His Word are one; they are inseparable (“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”—John 1:1). You can only know God by reading His Word and meditating on it. To meditate means to let the Word dominate your heart by turning it over and over again in your mind, ensuring that you “meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it” (Joshua 1:8).
However, you must ensure your heart is at its best for God. Keep it free from all unforgiveness, bitterness, envy, jealousy, past pain, deep hurt, and malice, etc. The Bible warns us to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice” (Ephesians 4:31), because God cannot dwell in a heart full of these things. Therefore, you must free your heart before you read the Holy Bible. As Jesus teaches us, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).

O Holy Spirit, free my heart to follow You, to connect with You and make my heart Your dwelling place. I surrender all my cares to You and I let You take control over my life and all that concerns me, in Jesus Christ’s name! Amen.
