Quand elle a commencé à ressentir le poids de la maladie mortelle, elle l’avait appelé et lui avait parlé de sa mort imminente, l’exhortant à prier pour elle afin qu’elle puisse survivre à la bataille contre le VIH/SIDA. Avant de mourir, elle lui raconta comment elle l’avait acheté quand il était très petit, au Ghana. Elle lui a également rappelé le meurtre de ses deux fils par une bande armée au Texas. La femme l’exploitait à volonté parce qu’elle exerçait des pouvoirs spirituels qu’il ne pouvait pas comprendre.
Ayant fait beaucoup d’argent grâce à son entreprise, Obedia avait voulu construire plus de maisons pour ses parents, mais sa première tentative a été contrariée par son frère aîné qui a gaspillé l’argent. Il ne voulait pas abandonner. Il a insisté pour recommencer tout seul. Il se mit à construire un autre édifice qui s’effondra plus tard. Sans se décourager, il en construisit un autre après trois mois. Mais à son plus grand choc, sa mère a rejeté la maison et a plutôt demandé pour de l’argent. Une femme voisine qui lui conseilla de déménager dans la maison que sa mère avait rejetée lui apparaissait plus tard aux côtés de sa fille dans une rencontre de rêve mais réelle, disant qu’elle était venue pour le protéger d’une communauté maléfique.

Un jour, zappant les chaînes télévisées, avec un verre de whisky à la main, il tomba accidentellement sur Emmanuel TV. Quand il s’est réveillé, certains changements s’étaient produits spirituellement. Son envie d’alcool ne fut plus. Vers cette époque, il a rencontré sa femme. Ensemble, ils ont déménagé dans la maison qu’il avait abandonnée quand il se trouvait alors sur l’autoroute de contamination spirituelle maléfique. Ils ont nettoyé la maison et ont découvert beaucoup de charmes qu’ils ont finalement brûlé. Ils ont également installé la télévision et regardé Emmanuel TV, en priant avec l’homme de Dieu.
